The facility is located on the Port property approximately
one mile southeast of the Port office. It was constructed on the site of an
out-of-service water storage tank that has become the stabilization/holding
tank for the septage receiving station.
The septage receiving tank is 107 feet in diameter and 12 feet deep. It is of buried concrete design and was
constructed in the early 1940s as part of the water system for the Tillamook
Naval Air Station. The tank had been out of service for many years. The
concrete roof was removed, concrete columns that supported the
roof were removed and the interior was coated with a chemical resistant epoxy. A 900 square-foot building was constructed to house the
processing portion of the facility. It receives septage
from five haulers.
Converting the tank to a septage receiving
station was advantageous because there are few locations for disposal of septage collected in
Tillamook County and building a completely new system would have been cost prohibitive.
