TILLAMOOK AIRPORT
Those arriving or departing by plane will appreciate Tillamook Airport's upgraded navigational aids at the beautiful airport facilities. The main runway (13-31) is 4,990 feet with MIRL and PAPI and a GPS non-precision approach/departure. The alternate runway is 2,900 feet (01-19) and recently installed MIRL and PAPIs.
Today's traffic includes everything: light passenger and cargo planes, military aircraft on training missions, vintage military aircraft from the Air Museum, experimental aircraft, airships, helicopters, private jets, and NASA weather balloons. We have it all!
Once you've dropped in, you can taxi right over to the Air Museum for a tour of the vintage warbirds or a bite in the café. You can also taxi to the Fuel Farm for 100 LL AV or Jet A aviation fuel and supplies. The airport is now offering Exxon fuel for your convenience, available 24/7 from a new card lock fuel system. Or camp overnight at the Pilot Park or Tillamook Airport Blimp Base RV Park. Pilots can sleep under their aircraft wing on the grass or meet friends and stay in the adjacent RV Park.
A recent FAA Airport Improvement Grant provided installation of a new Automated Weather Observation System III (AWOS). The AWOS uses state-of-the-art meteorological sensors to determine wind, visibility, cloud height, pressure and temperature. Pilots and other weather-interested people can access the local weather by calling 503-842-8792. Also installed was a new beacon, wind cone and segmented circle and security fencing.
Both runways and taxis have recently been repaved and painted to make dropping in as smooth and pleasant as driving in the family car. Once you're on the ground, the airport provides a generous tie-down apron and passenger accommodations at the FBO on the west side of the airport, mid-field.
Hangars are available to house 40 aircraft. Space is available for long-term leases for pilots wanting to build their own hangars.
So if you are out for a Sunday flight, stop by and you'll see why the Tillamook Airport is touted as the finest on the Oregon Coast. Driving on a trip, stay in the RV Park on-field and watch the airplane action from your own RV. Don't fly? Tillamook Air Tours is available for charter.
