Commercial Truck Driving (CDL)

Truck Driver Training Program
CDL Test Preparation

To help meet the needs of local employers, Tillamook Bay Community College offers a Truck Driver Training Program, which trains students to take both the written and driving portions of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) test. To date, 98% of students who have completed the training course have gone on to earn their CDL.

The program consists of four weeks of training including both classroom and driving time–as well as time on the state-of-the-art truck driving simulator–that prepares students for local, high-wage jobs.

The cost of the program is $5,000 plus additional fees associated with a CDL license (approximately $460). Grants, loans, and scholarships are available to help cover the cost.

How to Register

Download the CDL Application Packet, read all the pre-course requirements, fill out the application, and contact our program coordinator to set up an appointment. (Applications can also be provided at the appointment.)

TBCC has also partnered with Clatsop Community College and Oregon Coast Community College to provide CDL training to students residing in Astoria to Newport, Oregon.

TBCC also offers a one-week CDL refresher course for those who are returning to a career as a truck driver. Contact the CDL Program Coordinator to learn more.

Notice: It is up to the student to research eligibility requirements in the state for which the student desires to practice.

Rent the Truck Driving Simulator for your Business and Employees

TBCC’s Mobile Truck Simulator brings quality simulation training to business locations through state-of-the-art equipment. Simulator training offers a safe, controlled environment for drivers to practice adverse weather and road conditions and respond to road hazards. Beyond semi-trucks the simulator has potential to train school bus drivers, snow-plowing and waste management truck drivers. It can replicate any road/driving condition – including hazardous weather – as well as any type of hauling load, including liquids.

Drivers trained on the simulator experience fewer equipment failures, and lower accident and insurance rates. Training on the simulator prevents unnecessary wear and tear on actual vehicles.

In February of 2022, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration began requiring anyone seeking a CDL to receive formal training from an approved training provider.
